Nameless I fucking LOVED this book. It was one of the best Snow White retellings I have ever read.
I went home last night and couldn’t put it down I just wanted to gobble up the words as fast as I could.
Now it was not perfect. The first 80 or so pages are kind of confusing and slow going as you get used to all the weird terms and the fact that the world building isn’t great because the author doesn’t give you like, ANY information. After that the story gets going and it is fast paced and awesome.
The plot is good; the characters are well written and interesting.
Warning: Though it may not say so…this is kind of a vampire novel…. Just a unique take on them.
Camille- she is a good heroine, kind of a shy stuttering Mary Sue trying to find where she belongs and craving being a part of a real family. I liked her, she had strength when she needed to….She was a Mary Sue, but one I could get behind. She is Snow White after all, the ultimate Mary Sue. My only issue was that I found her a bit poor-pity-me. Her Family loves her and is protecting her and she seems not to see it for what it is and dwells on the fact she isn’t Blood and was found abandoned in the snow….
Nico- I enjoyed him; he is a love interest but not the normal kind. He was a bit controlling but I found it to be attractive and not creeper worthy. He has known Camille since they were children and the author wrote him so that he loves and deeply cares for the MC. Book, Candle, Nico sqqqueee.
Tor- Blech….. I know why he had to be in this book but honestly Camille is stupid about him and his character was very annoying. No he is not the third in a love triangle, far from it, thankfully.
Ruby- I hope Nameless is the first in a three part series because this character is Little Red Riding Hood, all ruby red and slutty… Though I find in interesting this is not the first time a writer has made their retelling of Red Riding Hood kind of a crazy rebellious slut. She was a good strong character, interesting, loyal, flirty and protective.
Ellen - Cinderella, her story and character really intrigued me and I cannot wait (hopefully) to read a book based on her. The author really gave her an interesting back story with the evil Strepmother (yes I spelled that correctly). She was soft spoken, kind, and sweet.
This book made me really happy actually. There were parts in it that surprised me and the darkness of the novel was a twisting twirling ride I very much enjoyed. You know me; I love darkness in my books. I very much recommend this if you like fairy tale retellings, vampires, YA and unique world building.
