2017- Edit (Cause I re watched the TV series :) )
As a girl I loved the Baby-Sitter's Club, for those of you not in the know
Now I just found out they released all the old TV version of these books on Netflix. They were half an hour each and there was only one season and 13 episodes. I loved these as a child, had them all on VHS (lol) in fact the TV show was much better than that HORRIBLE movie they made in 1995.
So as my ten year old daughter and I watched these I thought about it...Where would these girls be now? They would be in their 30's what happened to them? I looked all over and found a few blogs with speculation and honestly didn't care for the answers written. I found no official statements from the author either...So I decided to write one myself. I am doing all main characters (including Shannon and Logan) but not Abby, cause she sucked and I stopped reading it right after she came on scene. I tried for realistic, when I looked back at my own friends and realized none of us achieved exactly what we set out to after high school I figured adding some tragedy, humor and loss to these girls "lives" would be more accurate.
2017 Edit- When I wrote this I estimated the girls would all be about 30 by now. However based on the fact the first novel came out in 1986, in 2017 the girls would all be in their early 40's.
Kristy
Everyone always states Kristy is a lesbian, but I find that too obvious. Not all tom boys grow up gay. In my version Kristy went on to attend community college where she graduated with a teaching degree. She stayed in Stoneybrook and decided teaching P.E. wasn’t really her thing so instead she ran for Mayor and won. She has stayed single, has a few dogs and still coaches the Krushers on the weekends; she is also responsible for holding the BSC Reunion every two years.
2017 EDIT:
Now in her 40's Kristy is still single and is no longer Mayor of Stonybrook, instead she sits on the Board of Education. She can't hold reunions as often as she'd like because she's very busy. She hasn't coached the Krushers in a few years, but sponsors a baseball team for under privileged children and in constantly looking for ways to improve her community. In her free time attends dog shows and enjoys her life.
Claudia
After finally being diagnosed with a learning disorder Claudia did better in school and was moved back into the grade all her friends were in. Trying to live up to her parents expectations she went to college, but in Oregon, after a semester she dropped out. She then joined the renaissance fair circuit and began selling pewter and crystal jewelry as well and some of her art work. She is currently engaged to another woman who does dried flower arrangements for hair and decor in the stall next to her.
2017 EDIT:
Claudia and her girlfriend are married now. They live in Portland and neither of them are still in the renaissance fair circuit. Claudia owns her own gallery while her wife maintains an Esty shop goes to all the craft fairs. They don't want their own kids, but are devoted aunts to Janine's brood.
Mallory

Mallory
Mallory decided to, also, stay in Stoneybrook, but did attend college getting her Master’s Degree in Library Sciences. She is currently the head librarian at Stoneybrook Middle School and married to her middle school sweet heart Ben, they hooked back up when they met again, he teaches English at Stoneybrook High. They have one son, since Mallory refused to breed like her parents. She also self publishes novels on amazon.com feeling that traditional publishing houses are not Indie enough for her writing style.
2017 EDIT:
Mallory is still a library and married to Ben. At the age of 40 they had an accident baby, a daughter they named Louisa after Mallory's favorite author. This caused stress with their son who was already 12 at the time, eventually leading to him trying to commit suicide and Mallory sending him to a therapist. Mallory's self published novel, The Terror of the Red Pony, was picked up by a mainstream publisher and she is currently on book tour.

After achieving her goal of becoming a professional ballerina Jessie wound up with Ballet West in SLC Utah. She danced for several years while struggling with an eating disorder. In SLC she met a nice Mormon boy, converted and got married. They are currently on baby number 3 and she teaches ballet in her spare time, never getting her figure back entirely from her first child.
2017 EDIT:
Jessie and her husband have six kids and are currently planning the wedding of their oldest daughter. She is a stay at home mom now, but can often be found dancing through her living room and attending as many ballet programs as she possibly can. They are no longer involved with the church, as the church's stance on homosexuality condemned their oldest son. They still practice their faith, just not within the constraints of the church. In their spare time Jessie and her family love to travel all over the United States in their large RV.
Dawn (FYI this is NICE for me, I HATED Dawn and I’m from California)After high school Dawn attended Humboldt State University, but got knocked up by her boyfriend and dropped out a year in. He ditched her and she never saw him again. She worked at Trader Joes and became anti-vaccine, vegan, super hippie/granola and stayed single. She eventual became a Lay Midwife and in her spare time organizes rallies and protests against animal cruelty and pro the legalization of marijuana.
2017 EDIT:
Dawn moved to Colorado where she runs a legal marijuana business. A few years ago she married a OBGYN and became the step mom of two little girls. Her son is in high-school and her husband convinced her to make sure he was completely vaccinated. She is still a vegan and very much a nature child. She voted third party in 2016 because she was a super Bernie supporter.
Stacey
Stacey married Kristy’s older brother Sam and they moved back to New York, they were divorced within the year and she had to move in with her father. She modeled but had to waitress on the side to supplement her income. Never quite becoming as famous as she wanted she eventually married a man 13 years older than her. After being married for five years the couple decided to have a child and Stacey died during child birth. Her daughter is named Anna (for Anastasia) in her memory.
2017 EDIT:
RIP
Mary Anne
Mary Anne and Logan broke up for the final time the summer between 9th and 10th grade. She didn’t date again until college when she began dating a woman. She graduated with a BS in psychology and moved to Boston. She runs her own practice helping kids who have lost a parent either to death, or abandonment. She still loves cats and has three and is often teased about being a crazy cat lady. She married psychiatrist she met at a "child development of the middle class" lecture. They are currently married and looking into either surrogacy or adoption since Mary Anne has been diagnosed as sterile and her wife has no interest in being pregnant.
2017 EDIT:
Mary Anne and her wife have two kids, both adopted from Africa and are still quite happy living in Boston. Mary Anne, with Mallory's encouragement, is writing a memoir on the Babysitter's Club and has asked all the other members to contribute. She just suffered the loss of her father from a stroke.
Shannon
She attended Princeton and became a lawyer; she married a man of her parent’s choosing and never had children, loving other people’s but being uncomfortable with the idea of pregnancy. She raises, breeds and races horses, instead. After catching her husband cheating and a messy divorce Shannon now keeps several boyfriends all much younger than she is.
2017 EDIT:
Shannon was diagnosed with cervical cancer and almost died. While she still enjoys her young boyfriends, she spends most of her time and money on cancer research and charity's that help patients and families. With all her family's money she is also leaving a huge trust to her local cancer hospital.

Logan
He spent the rest of High School devoted to baseball and casually dating. He was given a partial scholarship for baseball to a University in Houston Texas. He was not drafted professionally, but content to graduate with a BS in Business and start his life. He got a job in a call center and eventually rose through the ranks to become the call center manager. He and his live in girlfriend currently are expecting their first child and on weekends he plays in his work’s softball team.
2017 EDIT:
Logan and his girlfriend split up and they share custody of their daughter 50/50. Logan still lives in Texas and is back in school for his Masters Degree. His current ambition is to own his own sports equipment business and save so his daughter can go to college. He was in a really bad car accident a few years back and is still struggling with physical therapy for his right hand.
Hope You Enjoyed!

This is so great I had to share it on my blog. Love it!

no problem so glad you enjoyed! lol
DeleteI used to love these books! I remember trying to start my own babysitting club when I was 11. Needless to say, it didn't happen lol. I had no idea that there was a tv show, but I did see the movie, I didn't think it was too bad. Great post Renee, thanks for bringing back some old memories =)
ReplyDeleteMonique @ Mo_Books
You can find all the episodes on netflix. I too tried to start a club and it didn't work. :) thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThank you for NOT making Kristi gay. I always thought Claudia was a closet lesbian, and I am happy that someone agrees. This isn't about being gay, as I see it more as stereotyping and unfair labeling.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I totally agree with all of this! I think it was a given that Stacey was going to die, and I am with you on the Kristy/Claudia thing. I too loathed Dawn, she was my least favorite by far.
