Haunted October- Top Ten Locations that were the REAL Villain

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/ where every week we showcase our top ten (fill in the blank). This week was Villains. I have chosen my top ten favorite books where the scariest part, the biggest bad guy- was the location or house.

A creepy cabin residing in also creepy plains

Beldame House

A booby-trapped old French Palace

Hill House

Literally the title

The House on Ash Tree Lane

Kemper House

The Oregon Trail

Rose Red

The historical Usher home

And one extra:

The Nightside

  1. This is a pretty cool spin on the villains theme. I remember reading The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer as a kid (I had no idea what I was getting into), and one of the few details that's stayed with me to this day is how progressively intense that book got. It probably deserves a reread now that I'm old enough to appreciate it, actually.

  2. I love when the house is the scariest part!! The book ROOMS by Lauren Oliver was sort of like that. Also, THE SHINING. Cool list!!

    1. Rooms was a great book! So was The Shining. Did you know it was based on a real haunted hotel?

  4. So no hell house? 😉 That was the first thing I would have thought you listed. Otherwise really good choices.

    1. The only reason Hell House is scary is because of the insane ghost who dwells it it, the house itself, not so much. But it did almost make the list

  5. This is great. I love when settings have their own personalities and this is especially true for horror novels.

  6. Hill House is a creepy place. I need to read The Hunger eventually. I’ve heard good things about it.
